Homes built under the Chief Minister and Prime Minister housing schemes in Ahmedabad have come under scrutiny after it was found that several units are occupied by tenants rather than their original beneficiaries.
Authorities have issued notices to beneficiaries of 380 houses, while 46 houses have already been sealed.
The matter was discussed at a meeting of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s Housing Committee, where members pointed out that many houses had been illegally rented out in violation of scheme norms.
Questioning why action had not been taken against all such properties, the committee issued an ultimatum to the administration to seal all illegally occupied houses within 15 days.
Following inspections across various housing schemes, zone-wise action was initiated. In the North-West Zone, show-cause notices were issued to 175 houses, of which six were sealed. In the South-West Zone, 24 houses received notices and three were sealed. In the West Zone, notices were issued to 87 houses, with 21 sealed.
Similarly, in the East Zone, 46 houses were served notices and eight were sealed.
As per directions issued by the Housing Committee during its previous term, all houses found to be occupied by tenants instead of the original beneficiaries are required to be sealed.
