The incident involving a traffic head constable slapping a woman lawyer at Anjali Crossroads took a new turn on Sunday, a day after the constable was suspended. The city traffic police registered two separate cases against the lawyer for allegedly abusing, threatening and obstructing on-duty police personnel.
The ‘N’ Division Traffic Police registered a case against the lawyer, identified as Thakkar, on Sunday. According to police sources, she was allegedly seen abusing a traffic policeman, issuing threats and creating an obstruction while he was performing official duties.
The matter escalated further when woman police constable Shraddha Ganda, posted in the traffic branch, reported an earlier incident involving the same woman. In her complaint, Ganda stated that on November 14, while on duty at Shyamal Beat, she stopped the woman for riding a two-wheeler without a helmet.
The constable alleged that while she was issuing a challan, the rider abused, misbehaved with and threatened her. The woman reportedly claimed to be a High Court lawyer and warned the police personnel that she would drag them to court and publicly humiliate them.
Based on the complaints, the ‘N’ Division Traffic Police Station has registered cases against the lawyer. Police said further legal action is underway in both matters.
