The City District Education Officer (DEO) on Friday issued notices to two schools in east Ahmedabad for allegedly forcing students to wear specific winter clothing, in violation of Education Department norms, following complaints from parents.
The schools served notices are Sugnan Primary School in Odhav and St Mark School in Bapunagar.
In the notices, the DEO stated that the schools had violated provisions of the Right to Education (RTE) Act by insisting on sweaters of a particular colour. The schools have been asked to explain why a fine of ₹10,000 per student should not be imposed on them.
The circular pointed out that the Education Department had already granted relaxation to students to wear warm clothes of their choice during winter. It further warned that failure to respond satisfactorily could lead to action under Sections 13 and 19 of the RTE Act, 2009.
