The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has completed its western trunk project, which is scheduled to be inaugurated by the end of December.
With the project in place, several areas in the city’s south and northwest zones — including Shela, Applewoods Township, Science City, South Bopal, Shantipur and Fatewadi — are expected to get lasting relief from the long-standing problem of overflowing drains and sewage water entering residential areas.
To address the issue affecting more than 20 lakh residents, the AMC has laid a 27-km-long pipeline network at a cost of Rs 371 crore. As part of the project, a major 2.5-km pipeline has been constructed from Vaishnodevi to Sanathal and the Sabarmati River, passing through Shilaj, Ambli, Applewoods and Shantipura.
