Gujarat’s per capita income has crossed 3 lakh for the first time, placing the state among India’s top five economies, officials said on Friday.
According to a government release, Gujarat’s per capita income now stands at 3,00,957 — higher than Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh — reflecting strong labour productivity and widespread economic participation.
The state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) reached 24.62 lakh crore in 2023–24, making Gujarat the fifth-largest state economy after Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka.
In the September quarter, India recorded 8.2% GDP growth, with Gujarat showing particularly strong performance. This consistent growth has reinforced Gujarat’s reputation as the country’s “growth engine.”
The release noted that Gujarat’s long-term growth, measured at constant prices, averaged 8.42% between 2012–13 and 2023–24 — the highest among major states with economies above 10 lakh crore, ahead of Karnataka (7.69%) and Tamil Nadu (6.29%).
Agriculture, forestry and fisheries contributed 3.69 lakh crore, supporting inclusive development across the state.
