Ahmedabad’s ongoing tree census has recorded more than 12 lakh trees across the city in eight months. The survey, covering all 48 wards, counts trees with a girth of at least 10 cm or a height of three meters or more. Officials said the census will continue for another four months before the final tally is confirmed.
The previous census, done in 2011, had recorded 6.18 lakh trees and a green cover of 4.62%. The current census, conducted by agency SARS India, has so far documented 12,07,967 trees as of November 25.
Data shows that some wards are notably greener, with Navrangpura emerging as the city’s top green zone.
