Immigration officials at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport detained two Bangladeshi nationals on Friday after both were found travelling on fraudulently obtained Indian passports and forged identity documents. The detentions took place during checks for SpiceJet flight SG-015 to Dubai on November 28.
According to FIRs filed by the Bureau of Immigration, both passengers were intercepted after their profiles and answers during questioning raised suspicion.
In the first case, a man identifying himself as Mithun Biswas failed to provide basic personal details. He later admitted his real name is Mithun Bala from Gopalganj district in Bangladesh. He told officials he had illegally entered India in 2018 and was living under the false identity of Biswas. He had obtained an Aadhaar card, PAN card and Indian passport using fake documents. All documents were seized and he was handed over to the police.
In the second case, another passenger claiming to be Ridoy Bhadra from West Bengal also gave inconsistent information. He later confessed to being Jayant Biswas from Magura Sadar in Bangladesh and said he had entered India illegally in 2017. He too had secured an Aadhaar card, voter ID and Indian passport using forged papers. Officers seized the documents and recorded his written confession.
The Bureau of Immigration has asked police to investigate the agents who helped both men obtain fake documents and passports. Separate cases have been registered, and further investigation is underway.
