The renowned white marble from Ambaji — Gujarat’s major pilgrimage site and Shaktipeeth — has been granted a Geographical Indication (GI) tag by the Centre, recognising the region’s high-quality stone.
The GI tag has been registered under the Ambaji Marbles Quarry and Factory Association in Banaskantha district, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry confirmed.Banaskantha Collector Mihir Patel said that apart from its spiritual importance, Ambaji has now earned a special place on the global marble map. He congratulated local residents and the marble association for achieving this milestone.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, in a post on X, welcomed the recognition, calling it a proud moment for Gujarat. He said Ambaji marble, known for its shine and beauty, has long been used in the construction of religious structures and that the GI tag will help boost its demand both in India and abroad.
