GMRC invites design tenders for 6-km Koteshwar–Airport route
With Central government approval for the airport Metro link expected soon, the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) has started groundwork for the new 6-km corridor connecting Koteshwar to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Airport.
The GMRC has invited tenders for ‘Detailed Design Consultancy Services’ for the project, which will feature an elevated viaduct and four elevated stations. The line will branch out from Motera, near the Narendra Modi Stadium, and pass through Koteshwar and Koba before reaching the airport.
Initially, the plan included an underground station at the airport to preserve the skyline, but the revised design now makes all stations elevated.
Estimated to cost around ₹18,000 crore, the project aims to boost connectivity ahead of major sporting events like the Commonwealth Games and Olympics. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) has already been sent to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for approval.
In addition, GMRC has invited tenders for extending the Metro corridor within GIFT City, which will include three elevated stations, and has also proposed a new Thaltej–Godhavi line to connect emerging sports hubs.
