Officers caught dodging patrols, failing to file reports; strict orders issued
Police Commissioner G.S. Malik has issued a stern circular after learning that several officers were shirking their weekly night-duty responsibilities. Each officer of the rank of Police Inspector, ACP, DCP and JCP is required to perform one night duty per week — patrolling sensitive zones and filing a detailed review report the following day.
However, investigations revealed that some officers had devised ways to avoid the night shift altogether and were failing to submit the mandatory reports. Enraged by this misconduct, Malik warned of strict action against those neglecting duty and reminded all officers of their accountability.
The circular emphasizes that night patrols and review reports are non-negotiable and must be carried out as per protocol. Officers found skipping duties or filing incomplete reports will face disciplinary measures.
This move comes as part of the Commissioner’s continued crackdown on “Vahivatdars” — a term used for policemen allegedly acting as intermediaries for illicit gains. After earlier taking tough action against such elements in the K Company, Malik has now tightened vigilance across the city to ensure discipline and integrity within the force.
