As India gears up to face South Africa in the ICC Women’s World Cup final on Sunday, November 2, two Surat-based diamond industrialists have announced a special reward for the team.
Govind Dholakia and Jayantibhai Narola, owners of Shree Ramkrishna (SRK) Exports, have pledged to gift each player natural diamond jewellery and rooftop solar panels if India lifts the trophy. The initiative, they said, aims to celebrate the team’s dedication and inspire future generations of women athletes.
In an official letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Dholakia expressed his admiration for the players’ courage and commitment, saying, “As our Indian women’s cricket team enters the World Cup final, my heart swells with pride. These women have won the hearts of billions with their strength and spirit.”
He added that SRK Exports would be honoured to present each champion player with handcrafted diamond jewellery as a token of appreciation, along with solar panels for their homes — symbolising the light they bring to the nation.
Dholakia, who was born in Dudhala village of Amreli in 1947, built SRK Exports from a small rented room in Surat into one of India’s leading diamond firms employing over 6,000 people.
India, the host nation, finished fourth in the league stage after wins over Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and New Zealand. In the semi-final, Jemimah Rodrigues’ match-winning century helped India defeat Australia and secure a spot in the final.
The team will now aim to script history by winning their first-ever Women’s World Cup title
