Dr Abhay R. Vasavada, founding director of the Iladevi Cataract & IOL Research Centre in Ahmedabad, has been named among the world’s top 2% clinician-scientists in ophthalmology and optometry for the fourth consecutive year.
He is the only scientist from Gujarat to feature in the global ranking compiled by Stanford University and published by Elsevier as part of the Updated Science-Wide Author Databases of Standardized Citation Indicators (August 2024).
According to the analysis, Dr Vasavada ranks 1,349th globally in ophthalmology and optometry — placing him in the top 1.65% among over 81,000 scientists in the field. Across all disciplines, he is ranked 184,202 out of 230,334 researchers worldwide.
“It is deeply gratifying to see Indian ophthalmology represented prominently on the global research stage,” Dr Vasavada said.
