After months of closure following the Harni Lake tragedy, boating at Kankaria Lake is all set to resume soon. The popular musical fountain at Nagina Wadi will also restart.
Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani said the musical fountain project was first approved in 2000-01 under the then Congress-led civic board. In 2003, Premier Fountain won the tender, with Amrapali Industries joining as a sponsor. A tri-party agreement between AMC, Premier Fountain, and Amrapali was signed in 2004, leading to the development of the garden, installation of the musical fountain and laser show, and the start of boating services — all at a cost of ₹15 crore.
Boating across Gujarat, including at Kankaria, was suspended on May 29, 2024, following the Harni Lake boating tragedy in Vadodara earlier that year. Now, with the state government issuing fresh guidelines for resuming boating and water sports, Amrapali has obtained all necessary approvals.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has cleared the reopening and granted a one-and-a-half-year extension to the agency. Soon, visitors can once again enjoy boat rides and the musical fountain spectacle at Kankaria Lake.
