The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) on Wednesday directed District Education Officers (DEOs) to issue updated certificates and documents to transgender students who have undergone gender reassignment surgery after completing Class 12, in accordance with the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, and bylaw 6.
The circular states that the process must be based on verification and certification by the district magistrate before granting updated identity documents to applicants.
GSHSEB secretary R.R. Vyas said that while such provisions already existed, the directive was issued after the DEO of Himmatnagar in Sabarkantha district recently received a request for a revised certificate. The circular aims to formally record and standardize the procedure across all districts.
