The 27th edition of the CEAT Cricket Rating (CCR) Awards was held in Mumbai on Tuesday, celebrating cricketers and sports leaders from around the world.
Former India captain Rohit Sharma was the star of the evening, receiving a special award for leading India to a Champions Trophy win earlier this year. This marked India’s second consecutive ICC title under his captaincy, following the T20 World Cup triumph in Barbados in June 2024. Rohit received the honour from batting legend Sunil Gavaskar.
The event also marked Rohit’s first public appearance since stepping down as India’s ODI captain. Shubman Gill has been named the new ODI captain, with his first assignment being the three-match series in Australia starting October 19. Rohit, along with Virat Kohli, has been included in the squad, marking their return to international cricket since the Champions Trophy victory in Dubai in March.
In other awards, Sanju Samson was named Men’s T20I Batter of the Year, beating Asia Cup stars Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma, while Varun Chakravarthy won Men’s T20I Bowler of the Year. India dominated the women’s awards, with Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma being recognised, though both were absent due to the ongoing Women’s World Cup 2025.
