To promote sports ahead of India’s expected hosting of the Commonwealth Games and Olympics, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has developed a modern sports activity centre under the GST Railway Overbridge in New Ranip.
Built at a cost of ₹2.7 crore, the facility will operate round-the-clock on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis. Similar centres are planned under eight other city overbridges.
The new centre offers a wide range of sports and recreational facilities—including a box cricket arena for up to 12 players (₹700/hour), a pickleball court, indoor games like table tennis and carrom, a children’s play zone, a yoga area, and food stalls. It also features a landscaped garden, parking space, and a senior citizens’ seating area.
Apart from recreation, sports coaching will be available, with fees varying by sport and level.
9-crore Palliative Care Centre in Gota
AMC has also approved a Palliative Care Centre in Gota for advanced-stage cancer patients, in partnership with Shyam Oncology Foundation Charitable Trust (Karunalaya).
The 9-crore facility will initially have 30 beds and provide free palliative and symptomatic care to stage 3 and 4 cancer patients. The proposal has been cleared by AMC’s Standing Committee, and the MoU with the NGO is under process.
