Elections to 17 municipal corporations in Gujarat—eight existing and nine newly formed—are likely to be held in January 2026, sources said. Polls for the existing bodies were originally scheduled for February but may now be clubbed with elections for the new corporations.The State Election Commission (SEC) has issued delimitation and reservation notifications for the nine new corporations, while polls for the existing eight will be conducted as per the current structure.The existing corporations include Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Bhavnagar and Gandhinagar. The new ones are Navsari, Porbandar, Surendranagar, Vapi, Mehsana, Anand, Gandhidham, Morbi and Nadiad.The SEC will begin the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls after Diwali, but the upcoming municipal polls will be held on the current rolls.
