The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced that its teams will carry out surprise inspections across the city to ensure proper waste management by hawkers, street vendors, and stall owners.
Under the new directive, all vendors will be required to keep two separate dustbins — one for wet waste and another for dry waste. Failure to follow the rules or throwing garbage on roads will result in fines. In repeated cases of violation, AMC teams will seize the vendor’s belongings.
Officials said that teams will first explain the cleanliness guidelines, but strict action will be taken against those who ignore repeated warnings.
As per Swachh Survekshan guidelines and the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, the following categories of vendors must comply with the segregation rules:
- Hawkers with handcarts
- Roadside stalls
- Food vendors
- Mobile shopkeepers
- Vendors operating from vehicles
Waste segregation norms:
- Green bin (wet waste): food leftovers, fruit and vegetable peels, spoiled food, used tea leaves, coffee grounds, coconut shells, etc.
- Blue bin (dry waste): plastic, paper, thermocol, water pouches, wrappers, glass, metals, etc.
This waste must be handed over separately to the door-to-door garbage collection vehicles, which have designated compartments for wet and dry waste. AMC has strictly warned that garbage should not be thrown on roads, into drains, or in open areas under any circumstances.
