Eight private universities from Gujarat have figured in the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) defaulters’ list, released on Friday.
These institutions failed to upload mandatory public self-disclosure information on their websites, as required under UGC’s Public Self-Disclosure by Higher Education Institutions Guidelines, 2024.
The defaulting universities are: Gandhinagar University, JG University, KN University, MK University, Transstadia University, Plastindia International University (Valsad), Surendranagar University, and TeamLease Skills University (Vadodara).
Across India, 54 universities have been flagged.
According to the UGC circular, all higher education institutions must maintain functional websites with key information easily accessible on the homepage—without requiring login or registration—and with a search facility for easy navigation.
Further, universities were directed to submit detailed information for inspection under Section 13 of the UGC Act, 1956, along with attested documents, and to upload filled-in formats and appendices via direct homepage links. The eight Gujarat universities, however, have not complied with these requirements.
