More than a month after the murder of a Class 10 student at Ahmedabad’s Seventh Day Adventist School in Khokhra, offline classes remain suspended. On Tuesday, parents and students protested outside the school, holding banners and slogans, urging authorities to resume physical teaching.
They have also submitted a written request to the District Education Officer (DEO) and sought inclusion in the parents’ committee formed under Gujarat High Court orders to review school safety measures.
Following the incident, the “Seventh Day School Jan Aakrosh Parents’ Sangharsh Samiti” was formed. Acting on the court’s directions, the DEO appointed a seven-member committee from this group to inspect the school’s security arrangements. The committee’s report highlighted gaps, including missing CCTV cameras in some areas, inadequately placed first-aid kits, incomplete surveillance across floors and staircases, and a temporarily stationed ambulance belonging to another trust.
The committee recommended police verification of all staff, starting Classes 10–12 on a trial basis under government supervision, appointing a counselor, maintaining a complaints register, banning mobile phones, and conducting regular counseling sessions to ensure student safety.
