To prevent sexual exploitation of young women, Rajkot Zone-2 DCP has instructed hotels under A-Division police jurisdiction to stop offering hourly rooms to young couples.
Hotel operators have been asked to carefully verify documents of all guests and question any suspicious individuals. Authorities found instances where underage girls were registered using the Aadhaar cards of adult women.
Police guidelines include:
If a minor girl’s face is covered, hotels must uncover it and verify it against her Aadhaar card.
If a girl is accompanied by a man, the hotel must inform the police immediately and deny the room.
Local youths should not be given rooms even for short durations, and solo local residents may also be refused to prevent potential misuse or suicide attempts.
All guests must be registered in the government’s Pathik software and in the hotel’s own register. Hotels are also instructed to install CCTV cameras and follow other safety measures.
The directive comes after investigations revealed that some hotels renting rooms by the hour were being misused to lure young women and students into sexual exploitation. The names of such hotels have emerged during inquiries into sexual assault cases.
