A man and a woman were injured on Tuesday morning when a metal angle fell from an under-construction bridge on SG Highway near YMCA. The incident took place around 9.45 am and briefly slowed traffic, raising concerns about safety at major infrastructure sites.
Police clarified that no part of the bridge collapsed; the metal support component fell during dismantling work and struck a couple riding an Activa scooter. The rider lost control and hit a barricade, leaving both injured. They were rushed to hospital for treatment.
Traffic police said congestion was cleared quickly, while fire officials confirmed they are investigating the lapse. According to authorities, safety angles are usually removed after proper barricading and diversions, but the couple had reportedly crossed into a restricted stretch during the work.
