Vacant seats in Gujarat University’s BSc colleges continue to rise, with only 3,568 of 8,010 seats filled this year -just 44.54% of the total intake.
While MG Science College admitted 612 students, exceeding its 500-seat capacity, many colleges reported single-digit admissions. ALT Training College got only two students, FD College of Science four, and Ananya Institute of Science 12.
Even established institutions struggled: Bhavan’s RA College admitted 212 students against 400 seats. Principals say interest in pure sciences is waning due to limited career prospects, with many students opting for professional or career-driven courses instead.
Experts warn that unless awareness about opportunities in science is built from the school level, the decline in BSc admissions will continue.
