The Gujarat government has reduced the fuel surcharge by 15 paise per unit with effect from July 1, lowering it from 2.45 to 2.30 per unit for all state-run discom customers.
According to a media report, announcing the move, State Energy and Petrochemicals Minister Kanubhai Desai said the cut will benefit around 1.75 crore consumers and save over ₹400 crore on bills between July and September 2025. The revised rate will remain until further changes by the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC).
This marks the third major reduction in two years. In January 2024, the surcharge was cut by 50 paise, followed by a 40 paise reduction in October 2024. For April–June 2025, the rate was unchanged at 2.45 per unit.
