India’s roads remain among the deadliest, with Delhi, Bengaluru, Jaipur and Ahmedabad leading in accident fatalities, according to a 2023 report. Overspeeding and reckless driving were cited as the primary causes.
According to a media report ahmedabad recorded 535 deaths last year, with 86% occurring on straight roads such as SG Highway, where long stretches encourage speeding. Fatalities on bridges accounted for another 7%, including the tragic Iskcon flyover crash that killed nine.
The report highlights uncontrolled roads as the most dangerous, with Ahmedabad logging 205 such deaths—ranking fifth after Mumbai, Indore, Delhi and Bengaluru. Overall, Delhi topped the list with 938 deaths, followed by Bengaluru (793) and Jaipur (718).
