A day after a former peon vandalised the botany department, Gujarat University tightened security on Tuesday, mandating that students and staff show their ID cards to enter the campus. Those yet to receive ID cards may use their fee-slips for access.
According to a media report, the step aims to prevent nuisance entries and ensure campus safety. Earlier, GU had tested a sticker-based entry system for vehicles, but the project was discontinued.
Meanwhile, the university has set up a three-member inquiry committee, comprising former VCs and senior academicians, to probe Monday’s incident. A show-cause notice has also been issued to the security firm for lapses in vigilance.
