From 2025, Gujarat’s education department will introduce bi-annual admissions for professional courses, a move seen to benefit private universities.
According to a media report, government resolution- the second admission cycle will be held every January–February for unfilled or non-allotted seats.
Government and grant-in-aid colleges can participate only if a branch has at least 30 vacant seats, while private universities will be free to conduct the process independently with no such restriction.
The additional round will cover AICTE-approved courses including engineering, hotel management, MBA, MCA, ME, MTech, MPlan, and diploma engineering. However, programmes governed by other councils, such as architecture and pharmacy, will remain outside the scope.
Admissions in this round will follow the same merit-based criteria as the June–July cycle, using JEE, GUJCET, and other entrance test scores. Institutes will be required to share allotment details with the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC).
While ACPC officials argue that the 30-seat rule ensures viable batch sizes in government colleges, private universities say the flexibility will make admissions quicker and more efficient.
“Since these seats fall outside the reservation framework, the process remains purely merit-based,” said Janak Khandwala, vice president of Silver Oak University.
