Passengers at Ahmedabad airport, already forced to walk outside the premises to find an auto-rickshaw, are now facing another ordeal: cab services charging up to five times the usual fare for pickups.Regular travellers are questioning why the same companies that charge reasonable fares for airport drop-offs demand exorbitant rates for the exact same distance when picking up passengers.Dr. Aarshee Kapoor, a medical professional, shared her experience: “I have often been charged ₹1,200–₹1,500 for a ride from the airport to Bodakdev. Finding an auto is not easy either, as one has to walk a kilometre or more with luggage.
Even with parking fees, fares can’t rise this much. Why aren’t there any regulations to stop this?”To make matters worse, passengers also report waiting 30–40 minutes for a cab. Several travellers on Monday afternoon said there were no cabs available despite the inflated prices.This adds to long-standing transport complaints at the airport.
Flyers have earlier voiced frustration at being made to walk more than a kilometre from the terminal to the auto stand, since auto-rickshaws are not allowed inside for pickups. While airport authorities provide a shuttle bus to the auto stand, passengers say it only moves once full — leading to further delays and inconvenience.
