The newly renovated Balvatika Fun Carnival — featuring joy rides, gaming zones, and amusement activities — was opened to the public with much excitement. But for many visitors, the fun begins with a bitter experience.
Near Gate No. 4, scamsters have been diverting vehicles away from the official parking lot to a nearby private plot. Posing as parking attendants, they mislead drivers with false “Parking Housefull” signs and block access to the AMC-designated lot. Visitors are then charged Rs 100 per car without receipts at the open plot, formerly known as Dedaki Garden. Tourist buses have also been spotted there.
A media report confirmed the presence of imposters at the crossroads, using coercion and deceptive signage to misdirect traffic. None of them carry identification or uniforms.
Civic officials clarified that the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has no role in this racket. “There is ample parking space near Gate No. 4. These individuals are operating illegally, and AMC has no affiliation with them,” said Mayor Pratibha Jain, adding that strict action will be taken.
Official AMC rates are Rs 30 for the first hour for cars and Rs 20 for two-wheelers, with additional hourly charges of Rs 15 and Rs 10, respectively.

Encroaching food stalls and carts have narrowed the approach road to the designated parking lot, worsening congestion. While two-wheelers somehow squeeze through, four-wheelers often cannot access the area. Visitors also complain about the absence of signage, public announcements, or police personnel to manage the crowd and traffic chaos.

Adding to grievances, visitors reported being charged Rs 30 for water bottles worth Rs 20. Many bottles lacked MRP labels and manufacturer details, violating the Legal Metrology Act.
