A 25-year-old murder accused lodged in Surendranagar jail appeared for Gujarat University’s PhD entrance exam on Tuesday. The candidate, a resident of Muliya in Surendranagar district and a First Class Gold Medallist in MSc-IT, was granted partial bail to attend the test. The court directed that he be escorted to GU’s KS School of Business Management by 11 am for the 12–2 pm exam and returned to jail immediately after, with all expenses covered by the government.
91% Turnout for PhD Entrance
GU held PhD entrance exams in over 70 disciplines, with 1,317 of 1,443 registered candidates appearing—a 91.26% turnout. More than half of the examinees were women. The answer key is expected in two days.
Without a standardised question bank, candidates wrote answers directly on the question paper, which had to be submitted. Papers were provided in Gujarati for all subjects except medical. Exams were not held for Journalism, Prakrit, and Urdu due to the lack of available guides.
