The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for eight districts in Gujarat—Mahisagar, Aravalli, Gandhinagar, Mehsana, Kheda, Sabarkantha, Dahod, and Panchmahal. These areas are likely to experience moderate rainfall and thundershowers, which could lead to waterlogging and traffic congestion.
A yellow alert has also been issued for several other districts, including Kachchh, Banaskantha, Patan, Surendranagar, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Bharuch, Narmada, Surat, Tapi, Dangs, Navsari, and Valsad.
According to a media report, IMD forecasts indicate that heavy rainfall will continue over Northeast and adjoining East India for the next seven days. On Saturday, extremely heavy rain was reported in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh.
In the national capital, Delhi, persistent rainfall continued on Sunday morning, with intense showers reported in areas such as Vijay Chowk, Connaught Place, Minto Bridge, Sarojini Nagar, AIIMS, and Panchkuian. Earlier, IMD had predicted light to moderate rain with thunderstorms for parts of the NCR region including Bahadurgarh, Manesar, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram.
In Himachal Pradesh, the monsoon continues to wreak havoc. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), 403 roads remain blocked, 411 power transformers are down, and 196 water supply schemes are non-functional due to rain-related damage. The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has reported 179 deaths since the start of the monsoon season, with 101 of them caused by incidents such as landslides, flash floods, and building collapses.
