60 Students Fall Ill After Suspected Food Poisoning at Girls’ Residential School in Dahod; Probe Initiated

At least 60 students from a girls’ residential school in Mandor Lukhadia village, Dahod district, fell ill on Saturday night following a suspected case of food poisoning. The incident triggered an urgent medical response and a formal investigation by authorities.

According to a media report, the students began experiencing symptoms such as vomiting, stomach pain, and nausea shortly after dinner. Around 12 students were first taken to the Limkheda Government Hospital for treatment. As the night progressed, more students showed similar symptoms and were rushed to the hospital in ambulances.

Doctors confirmed that all affected students are currently stable, crediting timely medical care for preventing any severe complications.

“No critical cases have been reported, but the incident raises serious concerns about food quality and hygiene in residential schools,” said a hospital official.

In response, senior district officials and food safety inspectors visited the hospital late at night. The Dahod district administration and the Food Department have begun a thorough investigation, and food samples from the evening meal have been collected for laboratory testing.

The residential school primarily houses girls from nearby tribal communities and has been part of several state welfare programs.

Further updates are awaited as the investigation continues.
