Woman Shares Kind Gesture by Policewomen on Mumbai-Surat Train

Woman Shares Kind Gesture by Policewomen on Mumbai-Surat Train

In a viral LinkedIn post, a woman passenger recounted a touching moment during her late-night train journey from Mumbai to Surat. Around 11 PM, two women police officers entered her compartment to check on her well-being.

They asked if she was comfortable, offered her a helpline number, and assured her she could call anytime if she felt unsafe. Their gesture not only surprised an elderly couple seated nearby but also left a lasting impression on the passenger.

She reflected on how such a simple yet thoughtful act highlighted the positive changes in Indian Railways and the country’s growing focus on passenger safety.

“Yesterday, while I was travelling alone on a late-night train from Mumbai to Surat, two women police officers entered my compartment at around 11 PM and asked, ‘Seat 38 – Purvi?’ A bit confused, I told them I was Purvi,” the woman passenger wrote on her LinkedIn post.

The woman passenger, Purvi Jain, took to LinkedIn to share that her late-night train felt safer when the two women officers not only confirmed her identity but also checked if she was comfortable, offered a helpline number and told her to call in case she felt unsafe. Talking about her experience, she wrote, “I’d never experienced anything like this before, even though I travel frequently.”

Later, she learnt that the women officers came to check on her as she was listed as a solo woman passenger. An elderly couple seated beside her were surprised. “They said their granddaughter often travels alone, and gestures like this make them feel reassured,” Jain wrote.

“That small moment made me reflect on how much India’s railways, and the country overall, have improved. From high-speed trains like Vande Bharat to quicker online ticket bookings, Jain acknowledged the strides made in passenger convenience,” she further added.

This LinkedIn post sparked a wave of reactions on the internet. Sharing a similar experience, a user wrote, “I had a experience when My friend and I were travelling from Gurgaon to Hisar and it was around 10 PM, and it was a general train no bookings in the entire train, so 2 creeps were sitting next to us and kept staring. Minutes later two police officers came and asked us if we are okay, we told them about the weird continuous stare and they arrested them. Later, we got to know that during night trains Police on every station keeps checking if there is anything wrong.”

“This was incredibly helpful, thank you for sharing. Your story genuinely moved me. As someone who struggles with the idea of solo train journeys, your positive experience has really helped to build my confidence,” another user wrote.

“We’re not perfect, and we’re certainly not on par with developed nations yet. But moments like this – women officers ensuring solo female passengers feel secure, smooth digital ticketing, and other small changes – show real progress is happening, even if it’s one step at a time,” she concluded.
