Shravan Special: Farali Delights Take Over Ahmedabad’s Food Scene

As Shravan begins on July 25, eateries across Ahmedabad are serving up special Farali menus for those observing fasts. Dishes like rajgira puris with sukhi bhaji, sweet potato wafers, and farali bhel are in high demand, with the craze expected to grow through the holy month.

As Shravan sets in, the streets of Ahmedabad come alive with the aroma of Farali delights. Small “Farali centres” and street vendors pop up on every corner, dishing out favourites like crispy sabudana vadas and spicy potato chevdo. The menu doesn’t stop there—creative offerings like Farali uttapam, sweet Sukhdi, creamy Dahi vadas, wholesome Moraiyo khichdi, and the ever-popular Buff vadas are flying off the counters.

Not to be left behind, upscale hotels and elite clubs across the city are curating special fasting menus, blending tradition with gourmet flair—all while keeping within the rules of Shravan fasting.

From cloud kitchens to cafes, Ahmedabad’s food scene is brimming with Shravan specials. Gajanand Pauva House tempts with comforting sabudana khichdi, fresh fruit juices, and lassi. At 1970 By Mahesh Tea in Vastrapur, the menu now includes sabudana vada, moraiyo, and fusion-style fries.

Foreva Foods, a rising cloud kitchen in Jodhpur Village, offers an all-out Farali spread. “We’ve reimagined Farali cuisine with innovative offerings,” says founder Nayan Yagnik. “We offer items like Farali masala sing, Bhel, Buff vada, Farali Thepla, Bataka ni Suki Bhaji, Sabudana khichdi, Moraiya, Sabudana vada, Banana fries, milkshake, lassi, and Kesar Shrikhand.”

“We also offer thali combos weighing 700 grams,” Yagnik adds. “Options include Thepla with Suki bhaji, Buff vada with curd and chutney, or Sabudana khichdi with Buff vada, curd, and Farali chevda.” Prices range from Rs 99 to Rs 325. “This Shravan, our Farali thalis have been a hit, showing that fasting foods can be both tasty and inclusive for everyone,” he says.

For a sit-down experience, Purohit Thali in Gurukul offers mini and full Farali thalis priced between Rs 300 and Rs 500. Their spread includes Rajbhog Shrikhand, Suran Ratalu nu Shaak, Farali Bhakhri, and Sing Ambodiya Kaju.

Kalhaar Blues & Greens Golf Club adds a luxury twist with its ten-item Farali thali every Monday during Shravan, priced at Rs 999. “We aim to keep it authentic while adding a gourmet touch,” says Dayal Singh, executive chef at KBG.

Meanwhile, Sambar Café plans to launch a Farali menu with a South Indian twist by July 25. Jalaram Farsan in Shahpur, famous for its kachoris and sweets, will sell only Farali snacks and mithai this month.

Quirkier options are also trending—Shakti Sandwich offers sabudana vada burgers, banana patties, Farali bhel, kharizza, and Farali pizza. Other local favourites like More Mehta (Maninagar), Rastriya (Ashram Road), and Gopi Dining Hall (Prahladnagar) have introduced special menus too.
