The Institute of Architecture & Planning at Nirma University recently conducted a two-week field studio titled ‘Reimagining Ahmedabad’s Stepwells as Living Public Spaces’, where 42 undergraduate students explored and reimagined the city’s historic stepwells.
Aimed at promoting public engagement and sustainability, the initiative divided students into seven interdisciplinary groups. Guided by faculty members Prof. Pooja Raval and Prof. Nishant Kansagra, the students documented and redesigned both well-known stepwells like Dada/Bai Harir ni Vav and Ashapura Mata ni Vav, as well as lesser-known gems hidden in neighbourhoods.
