After several delays, the redeveloped Balvatika at Kankaria Lake is finally set to reopen on Friday. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will inaugurate the Balvatika Fun Carnival, a special event for children, at 6:30 pm.
According to a media report, the ₹22-crore redevelopment project by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) was originally scheduled to be completed by April-end, but the opening was postponed to May and delayed further due to licensing and safety approvals, especially after the Rajkot game zone fire incident. The park has now received all required clearances.
Established in 1956 under the Kankaria Zoo Department, Balvatika has undergone a major transformation under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model after 68 years. The revamped park offers a host of new attractions including a snow park, wax museum, transparent glass tower, and 21 adventure rides. Other features include a dinosaur park, coin house, AC glass house, illusion house, go-karts, mud rides, shoe house, landscape garden, selfie zone, and glow station.
Entry is priced at ₹50, while select attractions like the snow park cost extra—₹450 including rental jackets.
Earlier, Balvatika earned around ₹10 lakh annually. Post-revamp, AMC expects to receive ₹19.23 lakh in annual rent plus 27% of ticket sales, pushing total annual revenue to nearly ₹40 lakh.
