According to the allegations, the “subjects have little to do with society or history”. It has been alleged that the subject “Fishing with faith” romanticises Islamic rituals as environmental science; “Robes of Authority” glorifies Sunni clerics through their clothing; “From Gods to Jinn” paints the Islamization of local beliefs as ‘ontological rewriting’ and “Mosque Speeches”. After the thesis subjects surfaced, allegations have been made that IIT-Gn’s humanities department is promoting Islamic practices via research methodology.
When contacted, IIT-Gn Director, Prof Rajat Moona said, “There are 40 students enrolled in Master of Arts who took up the thesis as part of their academics. Of these 40, four students have subjects related to Islam but they are supposed to study literature survey, their attire, royal rob etc. How is it Islamisation? This thesis was defended as part of the academic curriculum,” he told Mirror. When asked if students are assigned topics, or if they may choose topics, Prof Moona said, “It is a guided process.”
