The Sheth CN Vidyalaya in Ahmedabad is facing serious scrutiny after a parent reported an incident involving alleged corporal punishment. On October 14, a Class 9 student was reportedly slapped by teacher Ghanshyamsinh Dabhi during school hours, triggering a response from the District Education Officer (DEO).
According to the parent’s complaint, the incident took place between 12:45 PM and 1 PM, leaving the student distressed. The complaint highlights concerns over not just this specific event but also raises broader issues regarding student safety and mental health in schools.
“This isn’t just about one incident,” said DEO Rohit Chaudhari. “We’re looking at how schools can ensure a safe environment for all students.” The department has issued a show-cause notice demanding an explanation from the school regarding its handling of this situation.
In light of these allegations, there are calls for stricter policies against physical punishment in educational institutions. The parent emphasized that such actions could have lasting effects on children’s emotional well-being and urged school officials to investigate thoroughly to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Focus on Safe Environment
This case has sparked renewed discussions about the responsibility of educational institutions to create environments that foster safety and respect. The education system must prioritize mental health alongside academic success.
