Ahmedabad residents can soon breathe easier when searching for old property documents. The city’s municipal estate and tax records will be available online, a major shift from the painstaking process of visiting multiple offices.
On October 24, officials approved a ₹1 crore proposal to scan and upload these important documents. Gujarat Infotech Limited will carry out the scanning work. This initiative aims to streamline access to files that have often been difficult to find.
So what kinds of documents can people expect? The estate department’s offerings include construction permits, building plans, property cards, notices related to illegal constructions, and more. Meanwhile, the tax department will provide access to property tax bills, receipts, and no dues certificates among others.
Many of these records date back 80-90 years—dating back even before India’s independence—making their retrieval an arduous task for residents. Now that they’ll be digitized, accessing them should become much simpler.
The chairman of the Municipal Governance Committee noted that just like offline payments for documents are currently possible, online fees will also allow residents access. This transition not only eases document retrieval but also ensures better preservation of records over time.
Further down the line, officials plan to include additional departments’ older records into this online system as well.
