Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board has been awarded as Sanctuary Asia Award for “The Best Sustainable Wildlife Tourism State” in the TOF Tigers Wildlife Tourism Awards. The award was organised on 5th December 2023 at Bhikaner House, New Delhi. The state has been recognised and rewarded for its consistent and dedicated performance in the nature tourism industry, sustainable practices and responsible tourism in the Indian subcontinent.
Principal Secretary, Department of Tourism and Managing Director Madhya Pradesh tourism Board Shri Sheo Shekhar Shukla expressed his gratitude on recognition for Madhya Pradesh tourism’s work in eco tourism and conservation. He said, “With initiatives like eco-friendly homestays, conservation efforts, and local empowerment, we are nurturing a new era of travel that doesn’t just take from the land but gives back in return.
The state is an epitome of Responsible Wildlife Tourism and has retained its tag of the ‘Tiger State’ having accounted for 785 big cats. Madhya Pradesh’s commitment to preserving its tiger population is evident in the latest tiger census including numbers from prominent protected areas in Madhya Pradesh counting 12 National Parks, 24 Wildlife sanctuaries and 3 Biosphere Reserves.”
As per the organisers of this event, this category recognises the outstanding contributions of State Tourisms who have made a prominent difference to the wildlife habitats in their region and celebrate the rich biodiversity of the state. We seek to recognise the profound commitment to conservation, protection of biodiversity, and responsible tourism practices within the wildlife destinations. A short film by Madhya Pradesh tourism was also showcased in the event. It undoubtedly was an awesome and enjoyable dive into the heartland of India, where every celebration is a thrilling escapade! The film portrayed states rich history and architectural marvels and the treasure trove of cultural heritage. The short film was projected to not only create an urge to wander in the nature, unravel the vibrant tapestry and explore new places rather it gave all the in and outs of the destination that truly tugs at the heart. Madhya Pradesh aptly known as heart of Incredible India unfailingly attracted travel enthusiast to explore the peace in spirituality, natural splendour, wildlife, and rich history and architectural marvels. The award was received by Shri Yuvraj Padole, Deputy Director Event, Marketing and Films, MPTB.
Tiger, Cheetah and Leopard state of India
Madhya Pradesh offers an assortment of Wildlife attractions. It has numerous wildlife hotspots with 12 National parks & 24 Wildlife sanctuaries such as Satpura Wildlife Sanctuary and Chambal Ghadiyal Sanctuary. Madhya Pradesh holds the tag of being “Tiger State of the Country” by having maximum tiger count 785 in the state. It also referred as the ‘Leopard state’ & ‘Gharial State’. The state is also renowned as ‘Cheetah state’ since arrival of Cheetah at Kuno National Park.
