The much-anticipated trailer of The Archies is here, and from the looks of it, it seems like director Zoya Akhtar has delivered a winner. The film, set in the fictional hill-side town of Riverdale in the year 1964, feels both familiar and fresh. From Rock n’ Roll music, to friendship, love, and heartbreak, The Archies promises an emotional and energetic experience. As readers would also know, the film has been in the news ever since it was announced, as it marks the debut of star-kids Suhana Khan (Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter), Khushi Kapoor (daughter of Sridevi), and Agastya Nanda (Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson).
The trailer opens with a glimpse of the young ‘boys and girls’ enjoying life. The costumes and sets give the film a retro look. While they are all students, they also seem to have their share of outdoor adventures. The young cast, also including Mihir Ahuja, Dot., Vedang Raina and Yuvraj Menda, look promising as they go through the many emotions of young-adulthood. The music in the background has a melodious tune and we can’t wait for the final album to be released.
The trailer of The Archies was premiered at the Tudum event in Brazil, with the cast in attendance. Sharing the video on social media, Netflix wrote, “You’ve seen the gang in the comics, in books, and even in Riverdale — but this time around, you’ll see them closer to home! Set in the 60’s, The Archies builds a world that’s both familiar and new. Here’s your first look #TUDUM!”
The Archies began production last year in April, and producer Reema Kagti shared a slate from the first day of shoot, writing on Instagram, “Archie’s shoot starts, Tiger Baby’s first solo production #partnerincrime @zoieakhtar @Netflix.” The first look of the show was released a month by the platform with the caption, “The sun is out, the news is out! Come meet your new friends. Presenting to you the cast of The Archies, directed by the fantastic Zoya Akhtar.”
