More than 18 months after the 2,988-kg haul of heroin at Mundra port, the Gujarat high court on Friday granted regular bail to the only woman accused in the case, while denying the same relief to five others.
A bench of Justice A Y Kogje and Justice M R Mengdey allowed the bail appeal of Durga Purna Govindaraju Vaishali and rejected the appeals filed by her husband, Machavaram Sudhakar, along with four others, Pradeep Kumar, Rajkumar Perumal, and Afghan nationals Sobhan Hamid and Said Mohammed Hussaini.
A special NIA court had rejected their bail plea last year and they had approached the high court.
