Somy Ali, a former actress who is now a social activist, frequently makes headlines because of her previous marriage to Salman Khan. She has been outspoken about the actor’s abuse of her in public. Somy recently posted on Instagram about how she experienced mental and physical abuse during their eight-year relationship. Additionally, Ali claimed that the eight years she spent with Salman were the worst of her life and that there was never a day when he didn’t treat her like she was “worthless and small.”
Somy Ali shared a throwback photo of herself on Friday along with a lengthy note explaining why she had previously deleted her posts.“Yes, because I had used profanity and my anger got the best of me. As an executive director of an NGO, it did not sit well with me to have profane posts on my social media. Thus, I deleted them.”
Discussing a common query she receives from the public: What truly happened between Somy Ali and Salman Khan? In response, Somy stated, “The eight years I spent with him were the worst of my life. He would constantly degrade me by calling me ugly, stupid, and dumb, in addition to having a tonne of affairs and flings. He would consistently make me feel insignificant and unimportant. Years went by before he finally acknowledged me as his girlfriend in public, and when he did, he berated me constantly and insulted me in front of his friends.
“I have no reluctance in admitting that given his treatment of me, I chose to have affairs, which were essentially defined as a search for someone who would love and care for me,” she continued. Someone who would treat me nicely and not make me feel bad. Unfortunately, I didn’t realise that these men were just using me while I was building a future with each affair. After beating me, Salman had the guts to tell me that I was a man and that only men, not women, could have affairs when he found out about them. That statement horrified me because of the sexism it smacked of. Do not forget that just because Salman or anyone else treats you well, it does not mean that they will do the same for others. In terms of verbal, sexual, and physical abuse, I experienced the worst.”
For those who are unaware, Salman and Somy had a long-term relationship. When she was just 16 years old, the former actress reportedly had a major crush on the actor and travelled especially from the US to wed Khan. She acknowledged in an interview that Salman’s infidelity was the reason she dumped him.
Now a social activist, Somy Ali is in charge of an NGO that raises awareness of the plight of rape and domestic violence victims.
