It was an closed save for passengers travelling in an Air India plane bound for Bangalore as the plane had to make an emergency landing at Mumbai airport just 27 minutes after takeoff after it suffered a mid-air engine shutdown.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has launched an investigation into the incident. The aircraft A320 neo equipped with a CFM Leap engine.
Reports said the A320neo aircraft received a warning about high exhaust gas temperatures just minutes after taking off from Mumbai airport on Thursday morning. After the warning pilots sought an emergency landing at the Mumbai airport and landed the plane safely at 10:10 am.
Air India spokesperson said: “Air India accords top priority to safety and our Crew are well adept at handling these situations. Our engineering and maintenance teams are looking into the issue. Meanwhile, the scheduled flight had left with passengers to Bangalore after a change of aircraft.”
Passengers of Air India flight Al-639, which was scheduled to land in Bengaluru at Tam, eventually arrived at the destination over three hours late at 2.40 pm.
