The government has made it mandatory for automakers to provide three-point seat belts for all front-facing passengers in a car.
The rule would also apply to the middle seat in a car’s back row, according to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who spoke at a press conference on Thursday
The road transport and roads minister said, “I signed a file yesterday making it essential for automakers to supply three-point seat belts for all front-facing passengers in a car.”
Most cars produced in the country currently only feature three-point seat belts in the front seats and two rear seats.
The centre or centre rear seat, on the other hand, is only fitted with a two-point or lap seat belt, identical to the ones used in other cars.
