Schools and colleges in the state started buzzing with activity on Monday as students were back on the campuses following the 21-day Diwali vacation.
The state government had earlier announced a 14-day vacation in schools and colleges, but it was extended to 21 days in view of teachers’ demand. The 21-day break began on November 1 and ended today, marking the commencement of teaching in educational institutes.
While physical classes for standards 6-12 resumed in the state months ago, the government announced the resumption of offline teaching for standards 1-5 from today onwards. The announcement was made on Sunday, giving parents and schools just a day’s notice.
“We read in the news that physical classes will resume for standards 1-5 from today, but I haven’t sent my daughter to school today as there is no formal update from school authorities yet. I would like to visit the school first and see the arrangements before sending her,” said Ahmedabad resident Komal Desai, whose daughter studies in the first standard.
Schools have been asked to operate at 50% capacity, and comply with Covid-19 related protocols. They have also been asked to continue the online teaching mode.
Moreover, exams of students studying in class 12 ICSE board commenced on Monday, while exams of class 10 students are slated to begin from November 29. Semester exams will also begin soon in different colleges and universities this week
