In a major crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, an international drug racket operating from Ahmedabad was busted by the Ahmedabad Rural Police on Tuesday. Reportedly, the gang used to supply high-potency narcotic drugs using the dark web and cryptocurrency. As a result of the bust, the Ahmedabad Rural Police arrested two men with over one kilogram of four different kinds of narcotics.
According to the police, both the accused have been identified as Vandit Patel, a resident of Satellite area, and Parth Sharma from Vejalpur. The team investigating the case noted that drug peddlers used to deal in cryptocurrency through the hawala system.
Both the suspects used to sell high potency American charas, hybrid ganja, shetter, and psychotropic magic mushrooms in the city at exorbitant rates.
The police team also seized a plastic wrapping material used by the accused to hide consignment inside daily household items couriered from the US and Canada. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is examining the drug sample used by international drug traffickers.
The incident came to light when the suspects were traveling in a vehicle carrying 300 grams of hybrid ganja, 500 grams of American charas, 221 grams of charas gola, and 224 grams of psychotropic magic mushrooms. The police team also seized 43 grams of shetter.
Based on the intelligence inputs that the accused will be heading to the Ghuma area via Iscon crossroads from Bopal. The police laid a trap and after a raid by multiple teams of crime branch and Special Operations Group, they were able to hold both the suspects successfully.
While commenting on the arrests made, Ahmedabad Rural SP Virendra Yadav said, “The accused used to run a hair salon in Bopal and used it as a front to supply the drugs to customers, mostly corporate employees and college students,” as saying was quoted by a report published in the Indian Express.
He further added that the local crime branch and Special Operations Group of Ahmedabad rural police confiscated their laptops and cellphones for further investigation.
The accused made the payment using cryptocurrency and in order to avoid detection in scanners, they used to send drug consignments in a special plastic and hid it inside the household items.
