Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has begun a ‘barter’ system

Ahmedabad: We have to pay tax on the use of any type of land, these rules are not only for the general public but are also applicable for all types of government and non-government firms. Under this, the railways also have to pay property tax to the municipal corporation. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has begun a ‘barter’ system, To collect its pending property tax from Railways.  The AMC has decided to withhold all payments of railways for the recovery of property tax amounting to Rs 21 crore from railways.

Chairman of revenue committee Jainik Vakil has written a letter to city engineer instructing him not to release any payment to the railways. There have been meetings between AMC officials and DRM, but the issue of property tax remains unresolved. The AMC levies property tax on all buildings of railways, including Kalupur railway station. The railways had approached the Supreme Court against the AMC’s move, but SC ruled in favour of AMC.

The AMC has printed 4 lakh property tax bills and by October 10, 17 lakh bills will be printed. These bills will be distributed by October end. The AMC has started collecting mobile numbers and KYC details of tax payers. Assessment of the new I-T building in Vejalpur has been completed and Rs 2 crore property tax will be collected. Vakil said that from April 1 to September 14 this year, Rs 502.01 crore property tax, Rs 77.03 crore professional tax, Rs 51.35 crore vehicle tax, which amounts to a total of Rs 630.39 crore has been collected.
