The rains may have been intermittent in the city but that hasn’t prevented the potholes from showing up. The AMC has so far, as part of its pre-monsoon plan, got over 10,800 complaints of major and minor potholes on city roads. Of this, so far close to 10,600 have been refilled. Of the total potholes that have been filled close to 2000 were filled in the last one week.
New Nikol, Lambha, Vejalpur, and some roads in Naranpura were among those that developed potholes even before the monsoon hit the city with full force.
The AMC is also gearing up for the festive season and the health department will soon be collecting food samples from shops as part of the routine checking. This checking though done throughout the year gains momentum during the festive season and several teams are put out to collect samples before Diwali to ensure that adulterated and poor quality food products are not sold in the shops in the city.
Meanwhile, the AMC has also intensified the inspection of sites for mosquito breeding. Given the surge in Dengue cases in the city, the civic body had decided to carry on fogging even during the weekends when usually such activities are not done. During the inspection for mosquito breeding sites, it was found that Vejalpur, Jodhpur and Ramol areas in the city had the highest mosquito density. Shahpur, Shahibaugh and Sabarmati were the other areas that reported a high density of mosquitos that cause Chikungunya. The AMC is fearful that if mosquito breeding is not addressed the number of dengue cases in the city may touch the 2019 figures when over 4,000 cases were registered in a year. The civic body has also issued notices to units where mosquito breeding was found.
