Ahmedabad’s internal security infrastructure has received a boost ahead of Diwali, with Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi inaugurating three newly constructed police stations at Motera, Vastral and Hanspura on Thursday. With the addition of these stations, the total number of police stations in the city has increased to 52.
Addressing the gathering at the inauguration ceremony, Sanghavi said the new police stations would make it easier for citizens to access police services without having to travel long distances to register complaints or seek assistance.
He particularly highlighted the importance of the Motera police station in strengthening security around the Narendra Modi Stadium, one of the world’s largest cricket venues, especially during major sporting events.
Sanghavi also commended the Ahmedabad Crime Branch for recently busting an interstate drug trafficking network and seizing MD drugs and heroin worth crores of rupees. He appreciated the police force for maintaining round-the-clock security during Navratri and ensuring a safe environment for lakhs of revellers.
‘Allow Street Vendors to Conduct Business Peacefully’
Ahead of the festive season, Sanghavi urged police personnel to remain supportive of small traders and street vendors. He said they should be allowed to conduct their businesses peacefully, even late into the night, during Diwali.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior ministers, elected representatives, Director General of Police GS Malik and Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut, among others.
